Sleep & Energy

If the tiredness has stopped lifting no matter how early you go to bed, and your energy is gone by mid-afternoon, you’re not lazy and you’re not failing at sleep. Hormonal change can disrupt the architecture of sleep, the deep stages your brain and body need to recover. The result can be fatigue that feels different from being tired. It often compounds: bad sleep, low energy, low mood, harder sleep again. Breaking that cycle can start with looking at the whole pattern, not just the symptom on top.

*Please note the prescribing of medication is at the discretion of your Practitioner.

When sleep stops doing its job

A My Clinic consultation looks at sleep and energy together, because they’re rarely separate problems. We talk through what your sleep is actually like (when you wake, how often, what’s restful and what isn’t) and how your energy is holding up across the day.

Both oestrogen and progesterone play a role in regulating sleep. Oestrogen can affect the brain chemistry behind falling asleep and staying asleep. Progesterone has a calming quality and may support the deeper sleep stages your body needs to feel restored. As both decline, sleep can become lighter and more fragmented even when you’re getting enough hours.

Where it helps, we look at hormonal treatment, lifestyle adjustment, or further investigation, including thyroid and other contributors that often go unchecked. The aim is to get you sleeping properly and feeling like yourself again.

Seek support if sleep problems have persisted for more than a few weeks; if you are consistently getting fewer than six hours or waking frequently during the night; if fatigue is affecting your mood, concentration, relationships, or work; if you have tried practical sleep hygiene changes without meaningful improvement; or if you suspect that night sweats, anxiety, or other perimenopausal symptoms are significantly contributing to sleep disruption.

Treatment options vary depending on your individual health history and circumstances. Any prescribing or recommendations are made at the discretion of your Nurse Practitioner.

What's right for you?

Sleep and energy problems rarely have a single cause, which is why a personalised approach makes such a difference. During your consultation, your Nurse Practitioner will take time to understand your full picture — your symptoms, your history, and what matters most to you.

From there, they can explore what might be driving your sleep disruption and discuss options that are appropriate for you. This might include hormonal support, lifestyle strategies, or a combination of approaches.

You don’t have to keep pushing through exhaustion. Booking a telehealth appointment is a simple first step toward feeling more like yourself again.
