Menopause

If you’re in your 40s, the version of you that you’ve known for decades can suddenly get harder to recognise: waking up tired no matter how long you slept, a shorter temper, weight that won’t budge, a body that feels different. There’s a good chance hormones are involved. Menopause is the end point. The years leading up to it, called perimenopause, can begin in your mid 30s and stretch for a decade. Most of what people call “menopause” is actually this. And most of it is treatable, once someone takes the time to listen properly.

Menopause is more than the end of periods

At My Clinic, a menopause consultation starts with a proper conversation about what’s actually changed for you. Not a checklist. Not a five-minute sense-check.

We talk through your symptoms, your history, what you’ve tried, and what’s making daily life harder. From there we work out what’s likely driving things, what’s worth investigating, and what your options look like. That might involve hormone therapy. It might not. It depends on you.

Perimenopause, menopause, and the years after each behave differently. Symptoms come and go, sometimes in unrelated-looking clusters: sleep, mood, joints, skin, weight, brain fog. They are connected, even when they don’t feel that way.

The transition is universal. The experience of it isn’t. Some women move through it with manageable disruption. Others find years of their life genuinely difficult. Either way, you don’t need to wait until things are unbearable to ask for support.

Seek support from a health professional if symptoms are significantly affecting your sleep, mood, daily function, or quality of life. You do not need to wait until symptoms become severe. If you are uncertain whether what you are experiencing is perimenopause, a consultation is the right first step — you do not need to arrive with a clear diagnosis.

Treatment options and prescribing decisions will always be determined by your clinician based on your individual needs.

Some of the key Menopause symptoms…
Anxiety is one of the most common symptoms women experience during perimenopause, yet it is one of the least likely to be recognised as hormonal in origin. When anxiety feels new, more intense, more physical, or harder to manage than it used to, the hormonal transition is often a significant contributing factor.
Unexplained weight gain — particularly around the abdomen — without any change in eating or exercise habits is one of the most common concerns women bring to health consultations in their 40s and 50s. It is not a failure of discipline. It is almost always a sign that something in the body’s internal balance has shifted.
Sleep problems are one of the most common reasons women seek help from a health professional, and one of the most frustrating symptoms to manage alone. Whether you cannot fall asleep, wake repeatedly through the night, or find yourself wide awake at 4am, the cumulative effect on health and daily life is significant.

Not sure if you symptons match the condition. Not a problem, one of our clinicians can discuss them with you and help narrow down possible causes and effective treatments. Just book a general health appointment.
