With a growing number of telehealth providers available in Australia, it is worth knowing what to look for before booking. The right service will depend on your specific health needs, but there are a few key factors that apply across the board.
Check That the Service Covers Your Needs
Not all telehealth providers offer the same range of services. Before booking, confirm that the provider can address your specific concern. My Telehealth Clinic offers:
If you are unsure whether your concern can be addressed via telehealth, a Nurse Practitioner can advise you at the start of your consultation.
Look for AHPRA-Registered Practitioners
The most important thing to check when choosing a telehealth provider is whether the clinicians are registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). AHPRA registration means the practitioner has met the professional and educational standards required to practise in Australia and is subject to ongoing regulatory oversight.
At My Telehealth Clinic, all consultations are conducted by AHPRA-registered Nurse Practitioners. You can verify any practitioner’s registration independently at ahpra.gov.au.
Consider Availability and Access
Fast access matters — particularly when you are unwell and need a medical certificate or timely advice. Check that your provider’s operating hours suit your schedule and that wait times are reasonable.
My Telehealth Clinic operates 8am–9pm weekdays and 8am–6pm weekends (AEST). During operating hours, a Nurse Practitioner is typically available within 15 minutes.*
Subject to availability. Average response time for follow-up consultations is within 2 hours. Requests submitted outside operating hours will be reviewed the following business day.
Understand the Costs Upfront
Transparent pricing is essential. Before booking, confirm what the consultation costs, whether there are additional fees for certificates or prescriptions, and whether Medicare rebates apply.
At My Telehealth Clinic, fees are clear and straightforward:
- General consultation: $39.95
- Medical certificate: from $19.95
- No payment is taken until after your consultation is complete
Note: From 1 November 2025, Medicare rebates are not available for most consultations at My Telehealth Clinic due to changes in telehealth eligibility rules. Limited exceptions may apply — speak with your Nurse Practitioner to understand your individual eligibility.
Check the Provider’s Privacy and Security Practices
Your health information is sensitive. A reputable telehealth provider should handle your data in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles and use secure systems for consultations and record-keeping.
At My Telehealth Clinic, your personal and health information is stored securely and never shared without your consent.
Making Your Decision
A good telehealth provider should make it straightforward to access qualified care, with clear pricing, transparent processes, and clinicians who operate within their professional scope. If a provider cannot clearly answer questions about practitioner registration, fees, or how your information is handled, that is worth noting before you book.
